Belterz, the new album project by Conscious Route is a social exploration of his personal experience of a changing society and culture, highlighting the insights of an ageing person living life and being an artist in the music Industry.

Taking the perspective of an independent artist, the album features a host of top flight artists bringing different styles and perspectives as they share insights from their own journeys within the culture of the Scottish music scene.

The album musically and lyrically navigates a range of sounds and social topics, uniting the introspective with social observation, as we have come to expect from Conscious Route. Most of the production is handled battle rapper/ producer MacKenzie, with just two tracks (‘2 Guys’ produced by Tzusan and ‘Essence’ produced by Vagrant Real Estate) produced by others. Guest musicians, Chris Greive & Scott Bathgate also appear across 5 songs. With Scott Bathgate adding subtlety to ‘Ducks in a Row’ and an eerie edge to ‘Underground’, while Chris Greive brings extra trombone to the subtle style of ‘Late’, nuance to ‘Heart on Sleeves’ and a a mix of Jazz influenced keys and trombone with the track ‘2 Guys’.

The feature-heavy project boasts guest appearances from some of Scotland's finest, with tunes featuring Empress, YBxgtown, Kryptik, Lynzie Dray, Milles Better, Gluco, Jennifer Anne Todd, One Oz, Mistah Bohze, MacKenzie, JabbaThaKut, Wends, Becci Wallace, Solareye, Queen of Harps and Pro Focus.

Conscious Route draws upon years of experience in the music industry as he casts an eye over the state of hip-hop culture and the trials of getting noticed as an underground artist. His vocals mesh perfectly with those of his guests, bringing an array of vocal styles and accents as the music flips from hip-hop head-nodders to a UK Garage throwback, some soul-tinted melodies, dub, and beyond.

Continuing to push the culture while keeping an eye on its roots, ‘Belterz’ shows why Conscious Route has long been regarded as one of the foremost names in Scottish hip-hop. Release Date 10.11.2023

After several years of training and working in studios as an audio engineer, Jurnalist quickly started making a name for himself as an artist in the UK with features on BBC Radio Scotland and Mode FM London. An American transplant based in Leith looking to continue his growth and expand his profile in the Scottish music scene, Jurnalist has been collaborating with local artists to showcase his talents across genres including Afro, Grime, Rap, Drill and more. His energy-packed performances highlight the essence of the music he wishes to share – conversational and honest lyricism that bridges meaningful lyrics with hard-hitting production.

The Colombian-born Scottish artist, P Caso, is an expressive rapper whose sound is rooted deep in hip hop, jazz and grime. With enigmatic wordplay and syllable flow patterns over melodic vocal samples and syncopated beats, the artist is on his way to cementing his mark in the UK scene as a stand-out artist. P Caso's writing explores his experiences growing up in Glasgow as an adolescent. He delves into themes relating to the human experience such as the angst of letting go which is a central element in his current work. From past relationships to nostalgic memories accompanied by existential questions on the purpose of life itself, P Caso brings us into his world which he himself is still grappling to understand.

Curators: Arusa Qureshi is an award-winning writer, editor and speaker with a passion for music, diversity and accessibility within arts and culture. Her book about women in UK hip hop, ‘Flip the Script’, is out now via 404 Ink. She has bylines in The Guardian, NME, Clash, Time Out, The Forty-Five and The Scotsman.

Hip Hop Scotland are excited to be bringing one of the UK’s greatest-ever lyricists - @micrighteous to Glasgow on November 14th at the Poetry Club! The product of a tough upbringing, Mic Righteous began rapping to help deal with pent-up anger and frustration. He started to pen his own lyrics and record his own tracks at a recording studio near his brother's house, and quickly began to experience success, with his mixtapes receiving downloads in the thousands and his tracks becoming YouTube hits. With his popularity continuing to increase, he also began receiving recognition from fellow artists on the scene, namely The Game Devlin, and Wretch 32. NEW MUSIC RELEASE

Jazz Unsung by Conscious Route & Supermann on da Beat, feat P Caso & Bridget Quinn

Conscious Route returns with a new single, ‘Jazz Unsung,’ alongside Scottish Asian producer Supermann on da Beat and featuring Glasgow’s P Caso and Edinburgh-based alternative singer Bridget Quinn. The track is laced with a minor-key piano line that delivers a strong jazz aesthetic. This is perfectly matched by Bridget Quinn’s blues-laden vocal delivery as she opens the track and eases her way between the rhymes from P Caso and Conscious Route. The laid back but melancholy feel is lifted through the verses with a stuttering, off-beat break that piques attention as the MCs bring their emotive yet lyrically deft wordplay to bear. With a smooth, relaxed, grown-up and classy feel, ‘Jazz Unsung’ shows that hip-hop and jazz still make excellent bedfellows in 2023.
