Longtime collaborators, Conscious Route and Chris Greive join forces once again for this double selection that offers two different feels both in style and stance.

Anchored by Bridget Quinn’s arresting vocal performance, ‘Abstract Truth’ leans into a jazz aesthetic as a brooding synth opening drops away to allow brass to punctuate the relaxed drum break, leaving Conscious Route to deliver rhymes about the complexities of love, exploring the opposing themes of devotion and conflict - juggling devotion with jealousy as love tries to push against past emotional scars. Chris Greive’s deep production brings brass stabs and riffs rise and fall across the track before Bridget Quinn returns to close the track with a powerful jazz-inflected flourish.

The pace switches for the second track, ‘Grim,’ with a light, skipping electro-styled break underpinned by an ever-growing synth and bass wobble. The soundscape continues to thicken as the track progresses with vocal backings adding to the rising cacophony as the break switches up and drops to allow the instrumentation to ride out. Lyrically, Grim touches on darker themes of trauma and neglect, highlighting their impact on our behaviour and how we engage with society as a result. However, for the seriousness of the topic, the wordplay and delivery maintains a light, tongue-in-cheek edge as Conscious Route focuses on resilience, survival, and the ways in which people learn to cope and manifest under difficult circumstances.

Maintaining an underground edge, this double track selection grows with each listen as more of the complex soundscapes and lyrical messaging reveal themselves. Once again showing the versatility of Conscious Route and Chris Greive when they come together, this set also introduces one to watch in the shape of Bridget Quinn – don’t sleep on this.
